For the safety of our whole community we are running our open events virtually, until further notice. While nothing can completely match spending time visiting our beautiful site, meeting our pupils and staff and feeling the warmth of our happy, purposeful school community, we hope a ‘virtual visit’ will provide an introduction to the education St John’s offers. Amongst the ambition, excitement, variety and joyfulness of life at our school – we hope to provide you with a feel of what it is that makes St John's such a special place to be.
Whilst we are unable to welcome you through the doors of our school in person, we hope the virtual tour and introductory videos below from The Head, Rowena Cole, and our School Captains provide an essence of life at St John’s.
Introduction from Rowena Cole, The Head of St John's
An introduction to St John's, by our School Captains
We would be delighted to welcome you to one of our open events; please book below.
Whole-school Open Events (11+, 13+, 16+)
St John's holds whole-school Open Events in the Autumn and Spring Term each year. During these events, the whole of the School is open and on show; The Head gives a talk in the Chapel with the School Captains, our friendly staff are ready to welcome you into their departments to discuss their subjects and answer any questions you may have and our current pupils take great pride in giving you a tour of their school.
Our April 2021 event will take place virtually. Once booked, you will receive a confirmation email and a link to join the live event. Whilst this format cannot replicate much of what it is that makes St John's special, hearing from Rowena Cole, The Head, some of our pupils and key members of staff will start to give you a flavour of our personality and what we value most. There will be a live Q&A as part of this event. We recommend you also attend an event in the Autumn Term so you can experience the warmth and enthusiasm of our staff and pupils in person.
Discover Events (11+, 13+)
Discover St John’s mornings are smaller open events for prospective pupils and parents, which are held on a normal school day regularly throughout the year. The morning begins with refreshments with senior academic and pastoral staff, followed by a talk from The Head and tours of the School by our pupils.
The remaining Discover Events this academic year will take place virtually. Join us to meet:
- Some of our younger pupils
- Rowena Cole, The Head
- Rebecca Evans, Senior Deputy Head
- Richard Harvey, Head of Lower School
- Kate Symes-Thompson, Assistant Head (Upper School)
- Ashley Currie, Assistant Head (Pastoral)
- Gareth James, Director of Sport
- Ollie White, Director of Performing Arts
You will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance and during the live event. Once booked, you will receive a confirmation email; further information and the link to join will be sent prior to the event.
We welcome both parents and pupils to these events when they are taking place on the School site. However, as these events are hosted during a normal school day, we encourage pupils to attend in the Autumn Term when we are likely to be holding them onsite again, rather than taking time off school for a virtual event.
Sixth Form Events (16+)
For families who are interested in join St John's for the Sixth Form, both a whole-school Open Event and the Sixth Form specific event is recommended.
The closing date for applications to join us in the Lower Sixth, September 2022 is 15 October 2021. We will be holding our Sixth Form Event early in the Autumn Term - date to be confirmed shortly. At the event you will meet The Head, the Assistant Head (Sixth Form) and the Heads of Departments will welcome the opportunity to discuss the subjects you are keen to study at A level. Our current Sixth Form pupils enjoy giving tours of the School, answering questions and sharing their experience of life in the Sixth Form. Please contact the Admissions Office for further information.
Taster Mornings (11+, 13+)
Taster Mornings, usually held on a Saturday morning in the Autumn Term, are designed to give prospective pupils who are currently in Year 6 a feeling of what it may be like to be a St John's pupil. Our academic staff thoroughly enjoy engaging with pupils in different activities at these events.
Advance booking is required for a Taster Morning.
Due to current Covid-19 guidelines, we are regrettably unable to hold Taster Mornings this term. However, we are extremely hopefully that these will be able to go ahead on the School site next term; dates and booking information will be published shortly.
