For the safety of our whole community we are running our open events virtually, until further notice. While nothing can completely match spending time visiting our beautiful site, meeting our pupils and staff and feeling the warmth of our happy, purposeful school community, we hope a ‘virtual visit’ will provide an introduction to the education St John’s offers. Amongst the ambition, excitement, variety and joyfulness of life at our school – we hope to provide you with a feel of what it is that makes St John's such a special place to be.
Whilst we are unable to welcome you through the doors of our school in person, we hope the virtual tour and introductory videos below from The Head of St John’s, Rowena Cole, and our School Captains provide an essence of life at St John’s.
Introduction from Rowena Cole, The Head of St John's
An introduction to St John's, by our School Captains
We would be delighted to welcome you to one of our open events, and you can register your interest to attend one of these below.
Whole-school Open Events (11+, 13+, 16+)
St John's holds Whole-school Open Events in the Autumn and Spring each year. During these events, the whole of the School is open and on show, and tours are given by current pupils, as well as talks by The Head and St John’s pupils.
Once you have registered for our 2021 event, we will consider the current guidance at the time and confirm whether we will be able to welcome you to the School or whether it will follow our recent virtual open event format which includes a welcome and introduction to St John’s from The Head, Mrs Rowena Cole, a talk from our School Captains and a live Q&A Session with key members of St John's staff.
Discover Events (11+, 13+)
Discover St John’s mornings are smaller open events for prospective pupils and parents, which are normally held on a normal school day regularly throughout the year in the Old Chapel. The morning would normally begin with refreshments and the opportunity to speak with academic staff, followed by a talk from The Head. Visitors are then shown around the School by pupils.
If we remain unable to welcome visitors to the School, we would be delighted to welcome you to one of our virtual Discover Events. Once you have registered to attend, you will receive a confirmation email and we will send you further information and updates prior to the event.
At our Autumn Term virtual Discover Events, The Head, Mrs Rowena Cole spoke about the School and hosted a live Q&A session with key members of staff and our pupils.
Please note as these events are hosted during a normal school day, we would not encourage pupils to take time off school and would suggest that they attend a Whole-school Open Event.
Sixth Form Events (16+)
For those families interested in finding out about Sixth Form entry, both the whole-school Open Events and the Sixth Form specific events are recommended.
The closing date for applications for Sixth Form, September 2021 entry has now passed and we will release details of the next Sixth Form Event for those families interested in finding out more about 16+ entry in September 2022 in due course. In the meantime, we would recommend attending a whole-school Open Event to find out more about St John's. Please do contact the Admissions Office for further information regarding Sixth Form.
Taster Mornings (11+, 13+)
Taster Mornings, usually held on a Saturday in the Autumn Term, are designed to allow prospective pupils who are currently in Year 6 to get a flavour of school life at St John's. Advance booking is required for Taster Mornings
Due to current Covid-19 guidelines, we are regrettably unable to hold Taster Mornings this term. We look forward to arranging new dates once restrictions allow, and welcoming you to St John’s School in person as soon as we can. In the meantime, we would be delighted to welcome you to our virtual open events listed above.
