To celebrate European Day of Languages on 26 September 2022, our Modern Foreign Languages Department hosted another fantastic bake-off challenge!

The St John’s European Bake-Off competition has become a much-loved highlight of the Autumn Term in recent years and once again saw great involvement from across all year groups. To take part, pupils had to bake something which celebrated a European country – be that by decorating it to visually represent the country, or by executing an original European recipe!

The bake-off tent (Old Chapel) was adorned with European flags, and the aroma of freshly baked goods filled the air.

As the team of judges were assembled for the tricky task of awarding star baker awards, it was evident they had a hugely exciting challenge ahead of them as the quality of the bakes was incredible and the creative talents on display were outstanding.

As the judging took place, it was clear that a real degree of effort and thought had gone into the amazing creations, celebrating a fantastic array of countries. Staff were enormously proud to see the display of baked goods, which celebrated languages and cultures all over Europe. The winners were chosen after many forkfuls of tasting and deliberation. The following pupils were awarded prizes:

First Place – Tati’s delicious and hyper-realistic cake in the shape of a pizza.

Second Place – Ella’s scrumptious Santorini-inspired lemon cake.
