The most outstanding institutions that the independent sector has to offer have been recognised in the shortlist for the 2021 Tes Independent School Awards, which has been published today.
We are delighted to announce that St John’s School has been shortlisted in the Sports Award.
Tes editor Jon Severs said: “After a difficult year for all schools, it is an honour to celebrate the Tes Independent School Awards, not only to celebrate excellent practice but to ensure that practice is shared far and wide. We received an unparalleled number of entries this year, which is testament to the great work all have done during the pandemic. The schools that have been shortlisted should be proud – it’s a remarkable achievement”
Rowena Cole, The Head, commented: “We are thrilled that the judges have recognised sport at St John’s in this year’s shortlist. When Gareth James, Director of Sport, made significant changes to how our sports provision is structured at St John’s, the focus was on increasing participation, opportunity and access to elite coaching for all pupils. The approach has had real impact on how sport engages pupils across year groups and ability levels. During lockdown the Sports Department was integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our pupils and it has been wonderful to see pupils enthusiastically return to school sport in recent weeks.”
Director of Sport, Gareth James, explained: “Respect, enjoyment, humility and growth are the values at the heart of St John’s sport and we are committed to giving all pupils access to high quality coaching, outstanding facilities, and a breadth of sports. We want every child to achieve their full potential no matter their sporting preference or ability and, on behalf of the whole team who make this possible, I am very proud that the panel of judges have seen the value in our approach.”
For the first time, it will not be possible to hold the awards night in person, so the 2021 Tes Independent School Awards winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday 30 April 2021. Further information can be found at www.isawards.co.uk.
