Cricket is a major sport for boys and girls in the Summer Term at St John’s and is hugely popular. We encourage cricketers of all ages and abilities to take part and to represent our school, as well as supporting the most talented to play at an elite level and represent their county, region or country.
We’re proud to field boys’ 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, U15A/B, U14A/B/C, U13A/B and U12A/B and girls’ U17, U15, U14, U13A/B and U12A/B teams, all of which play in regular fixtures.
Our fixture list includes, among others, KCS Wimbledon, Ardingly College, St George’s Weybridge, Epsom College, Surbiton High and Reigate Grammar. We also love playing our annual fixtures against The MCC and Forty Club and the 1st XI enjoy an end of summer cricket festival alongside Brentwood School, Ipswich School and Abingdon every year.
Involvement with cricket at St John’s can open fantastic opportunities for travel, such as tours to the Dubai Arch Trophy in 2015 and 2016, Sri Lanka in 2018, and short haul preseason trips to Desert Springs and La Manga in 2017. Following a brief pause due to the pandemic, we are looking forward to going on tour to Dubai again in Easter 2023.
Ben Geddes, OJ '19, signed his first professional contract with Surrey CCC in 2021
Our cricketers benefit from access to the three Surrey CCC coaches we currently have working full time on our cricket programme, as well as St John’s Director of Cricket, Mr Hammond, and Director of Sport, Mr James, who are both former Essex CCC players.
These strong relationships with Surrey CCC and Essex CCC helps to provide our pupils with the best chance of achieving their full potential.
