Athletics is one of the strongest summer sports and is truly co-educational, with boys and girls training and competing alongside each other at co-ed fixtures across the south-east of England. We also enter some indoor competitions during the winter months.

Training takes place at the New Fields. All athletics events are covered, both track and field. Pupils have a chance to try a full range of events before specialising, or focusing on their abilities as a combined events athlete. Fixtures against other schools take place on a Saturday, whilst the house athletics competition is hotly contested. We also take part in the Central Surrey District Championships, with many athletes chosen to go on to county finals.

The St John’s athletics team competes at a high level, both as a team and as individuals. The School has had many athletes represent Surrey in recent years, with several going on to national representation and even winning national titles, as well as a number of former pupils representing universities such as Loughborough at the BUCS Championships.
