Performing Arts Scholarship
St John’s School offers a number of scholarships to candidates who demonstrate leadership and excellence in their specified field and also possess the potential to further develop during their time at St John’s. We are pleased to award scholarships to recognise pupil's talent and commitment in their field.
Our Performing Arts Department is an energetic, creative and inclusive hub that strives to promote committed, passionate and diverse performances in music, drama and dance. We have one central goal: to encourage and foster a true love and enjoyment of performing for all.
Music at St John's is about variety, breadth, fun and enjoyment and committed music making. The joy of music permeates throughout the whole school. Music scholarships are awarded to candidates with exceptional ability and potential and who convey a true passion for music. Successful candidates may receive free music tuition on up to three instruments, benefit from a programme of support, monitoring and encouragement and also have the guidance of a specialist music tutor. Music scholars are also expected to make an active and positive contribution to the musical and co-curricular musical life of the School, both as a soloist and in ensemble work with, for example, choirs, orchestras and productions. There is no requirement to study music at GCSE or A level, though many do and are encouraged to do so.
Drama at St John’s is of the highest standard, and it achieves this through embracing the joyous fun of engaging in the rehearsal room, alongside the excitement of waiting in the wings, developing true commitment and dedication from pupils and staff alike. Drama scholarships are awarded to candidates with potential, ability and an enthusiasm for the discipline. Drama scholars are expected to make a full contribution to co-curricular drama and to study drama as an academic subject at GCSE.
Because of my scholarship, I get to see a music tutor each week. Having the encouragement and support of my tutor and the team means I am improving and more confident. I have really loved taking part in lots of recitals, shows and most recently the musical. - Louise
