Farewell to the Autumn Term
St John’s School concluded the Autumn Term adorned with festive attire and a glimmer of Christmas cheer across the faces of all. We bid farewell to a great term, in which a lot of memories have been made. There have been many proud moments including sporting triumphs, talented performances and, most importantly, the kindness shown across the School, plus the energy and enthusiasm of the pupils. We look forward to 2019 with optimism.
Throughout Advent, a number of Carol Services were held in the Chapel for Houses and families. Soloists, choirs and readers excelled in their charming performances.
Pupils from all year groups, and a number of staff, performed on Tuesday 11 December in the Christmas Rock Concert, showcasing the instrumental and vocal talents of St John's pupils. An exclusive, and very special performance by the Staff Band was met by rapturous applause! The Head of St John’s, Mrs Cole said “this was certainly one of my highlights, with the entire school getting involved in contemporary festive performances”.
Throughout December, Houses were enjoying events such as dinners, gingerbread making and ice skating trips. North and Monty were delighted to have the opportunity to hand deliver £1600 worth of toys and gifts, generously donated to their fundraising effort, to the Royal Marsden Toy Appeal.
House rugby and hockey took place over a number of days, with well fought matches and fantastic support. The victorious teams in hockey were Haslewood House for both Senior A and B competitions, South House for Fourth Form and Gloucester House for Fifth Form. In the rugby results, East House won both the Senior Contact and Fourth Form competitions, with West House winning Senior Touch and Fifth Form rugby.
On the last day of term, pupils and staff were encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper, for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. The Dining Hall was full of festivity as pupils and staff enjoyed a traditional Christmas lunch under the twinkling lights and festive music.
The Head closed the term with an assembly, celebrating the many successes this term. Colours and Awards were given to pupils excelling in their field. Praise and thanks was given to the entire pupil body for what has been a fantastic term, in which the pupils have shown commitment, involvement and their strength at upholding the values of the School.
As the School closes its doors on the crisp winter air for the Christmas period, the wonderful Christmas trees will now be donated to local community groups for their enjoyment throughout the remainder of December.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
