A Fantastic Community Holiday
For one week in August the annual St John’s School Community Holiday took place, during which 22 children with special needs enjoyed a residential holiday at the School. On-site activities included games, art, a treasure hunt and a drama workshop plus evening performance.
Away from the School, the children enjoyed horse-riding, a day at Littlehampton seaside, a visit to see the Lion King in the West End and a day at Chessington World of Adventures. The children were cared for by 37 present and former Sixth Form pupils, including 16 pupils now entering the Upper Sixth.
The carers embraced their roles well, accepting the responsibility of looking after another human being. By the end of the week, the children had experienced a good holiday and the helpers had grown in maturity and no doubt looked forward to a few days’ well-earned rest.
We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from parents of the children who came on the holiday:
“Once again I would like to thank you for giving my son the most amazing holiday. Your staff and volunteers constantly amaze me by their generosity of spirit, time, patience and the size of their amazing hearts.”
“Words can’t express our gratitude and thanks for all the hard work, love and care you have given our children. Thank you for the last five years.”
“Heartfelt thanks for another amazing week at the St John’s Community Holiday, my daughter had the time of her life. The energy you bring and genuine love and care you show our children is appreciated more than you’ll ever know.”
