Best-Ever GCSE Results at St John's
The 2018 results represent the best ever showing at GCSE level by pupils at St John’s. The cohort of 121 pupils achieved an impressive 74% of grades at A*/A and 9-7 and 48% of all grades awarded are at the highest levels of A* or 9-8 (the highest in the School’s history). On an individual note, a sixth of the year group achieved eight or more A*s/9s, while a third of the year group achieved five or more A*s/9s, highlighting how well pupils excel academically.
Rowena Cole, The Head of St John’s, commented: “In a year when there has been significant upheaval and disruption to the examination system, I am proud of the way that our pupils and staff have risen to the challenge. The new grade 9 is designed to stretch the most able and our boys and girls have outperformed expectations to achieve such excellent results at the highest level - I congratulate them all. Amongst the overall achievement, there are standout performances such as the seven pupils who achieved straight A*s/9s and the impressive 40% of the year group who achieved a grade 9 in English Language. The professionalism and commitment of our teaching staff has given our pupils the best possible chance to succeed. We aim to inspire a love of learning and to create enthusiasm around subjects, rather than teaching to pass a test. By becoming inquisitive, curious learners, our pupils develop the broader skills which help them to succeed both in exams and in life.”
The pupils will now progress into the St John’s Sixth Form to study A levels and the School looks forward to welcoming them, along with new joiners to the Sixth Form, back to school in September.
