Stars at The Stoop

On Wednesday 13 November the St John’s 1st XV rugby team played against Caterham School’s 1st XV at the Twickenham Stoop, home of the Harlequins. This was an amazing opportunity for the School and pupils involved, as it was the first time we have ever been invited to play at The Stoop.

St John’s came out in force to support the team with Lower School pupils excitedly cheering them on from the stands. The match was also live streamed to all parents, staff and pupils through the new school portal. Those watching the live stream were able to listen to match commentary by London Irish legend and St John’s rugby coach, Topsy Ojo and Old Johnian U18 England player Molly Saunders.

The St John’s team were given the home changing room to get game ready and had named pegs for their jerseys. Old Johnian Jack Musk, Harlequins premiership player, presented each player with their match day jersey before the game.

St John’s put on a great display of rugby beating Caterham 41-12. Congratulations to all 20 players and to the five try scorers, Jack, Austin, Ed, Ryan and Will. Further congratulations to Austin for a successful 7/7 kicks (5 conversions and 2 penalty kicks).

It was a great afternoon for the School and the 1st XV players, highlighting some excellent rugby coaching and play, and celebrating rugby within the St John’s School community.
