To mark the end of the first half of Autumn Term, pupils came together on Friday 18 October for the hotly contested House Singing Competition. Pupils have been practising in house since the term began, hoping to impress adjudicator Mr Mason, Director of Music at Lancing College.
The competition began with the Part Song, where a selected group of pupils from each house performed an eclectic mix of songs. As the adjudicator, Mr Mason, announced the results, he commended pupils on their efforts as it was ‘no small feat to stand up here in front of your peers’.
The results of the Part Song saw South in first place with their performance of a mash up of Happy Ending (Mika) and Where is the Love (The Black Eyed Peas). In joint second place, were East with their enthusiastic performance of Everybody (The Backstreet Boys) and Haslewood with their performance of Forget You (Cee Lo Green).
Following the Part Song, each house then performed their Unison piece with their full cohort of pupils. There were some wonderful performances with commendable enthusiasm, including some fantastic air guitars! South won the Unison with their rendition of Mamma Mia (ABBA) followed by North in second place with Your Song (Elton John) and Gloucester in third place with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (Elton John).
The Lower School House Singing Competition saw six energetic performances of Beatles songs. Mr Mason commented on the ‘sense of fun and togetherness’ the pupils brought to their performances. In first place, were Orange group with their rendition of I Want To Hold Your Hand, and in second were Red with Ticket to Ride.
