An Evening of Musical Cabaret

Following the phenomenal performances of ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’ last term, the Performing Arts Department was delighted to present ‘Fortitude’ on the evening of 19 June. This musical theatre cabaret showcased some of St John’s most talented performers ranging from the Lower Third to Upper Sixth.

Speaking at the start of the evening, Mr Ollie White, Director of Performing Arts, posited that musical theatre was the ideal synergy of music and drama and perfect for a performing arts event - few would have disagreed at the end of a wonderful evening. Creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere in the beautiful setting of the Old Chapel, the audience was seated around tables and were treated to exceptional refreshments during the performance.

Our performers told the emotional story of one family through a wide variety of musical theatre repertoire, both solos and ensemble numbers. The pupils performed with a maturity and sensitivity well beyond their years, as they portrayed the innermost emotions of their characters with sincerity and poise. The evening was complete thanks to some expressive accompanying from Mr White on the piano.

The future of performing arts at St John’s is bright!
