Lettings and Venue Hire
St John’s was founded in 1851 and moved to Leatherhead, Surrey, in 1872. The location has proved popular ever since, being conveniently close to the town centre and with excellent communications by road and rail - St John’s is just five minutes from junction 9 of the M25 and 45 minutes by train from central London.
The striking mix of mid-Victorian architecture and contemporary, state-of-the-art buildings, offer a blend of old and new and create a very special atmosphere. The variety of spaces and facilities make St John's the ideal venue for a variety of different events from choral concerts to sports activities.
The School is keen to share its outstanding facilities with the wider community and we frequently welcome groups and organisations to St John's. Many areas of the School are available to hire outside of school hours and during school holidays. You can read more about our facilities and the spaces which are available to hire below.
The Old Chapel
The Old Chapel was built as the School Chapel in 1878 and was later used as the School Library before falling into disrepair. Thanks to extraordinarily generous and kind donations from friends, OJs, parents, former parents and local businesses, we were able to fund an extensive renovation project to bring the Old Chapel back to life. Completed in April 2014, the beautifully restored building has become integral to school life once again and is available as a fantastic venue for the local community to use.
The stunning Old Chapel stands prominently at the entrance to the School. The building’s marvellous architecture includes a number of period features such as stained glass windows and an impressive vaulted ceiling.
We are delighted to be able to share this unique location with the local community, perfect for exhibitions, concerts, seminars, celebrations and charity events.
Please note that the Old Chapel is available to hire outside of school hours and during school holidays.

The School Chapel is a beautiful and spacious building, popular for concerts with local schools, charities and choral societies. The venue can seat a maximum of 70 people in the choir stalls and the nave can comfortably accommodate up to 500 people on cushioned wooden pews.
The Chapel has two beautifully designed stained glass windows, which create a unique and tranquil atmosphere. The stunning west window was a new addition in 2014. Designed by Jude Tarrant, it focuses on themes of war and its futility. It features the symbolic poppy that came to represent the sacrifice of those who fought in the First World War and subsequent conflicts. The west window now complements the east window, also designed by Tarrant. In 2015, generous donations enabled the installation of a Kenneth Tickell organ.
Please note that the Chapel is only available to hire outside of school hours and during school holidays.
The Dining Hall stands proudly on the Quad. It was designed by architect Mr Harrison and opened in 1898. The building boasts a number of stunning architectural features, with a vaulted ceiling, stained glassed windows and magnificent chandeliers. The Dining Hall is a flexible venue suitable for luncheons, dinner dances and wedding receptions, as well as community events.
Please note that the Dining Hall is only available to hire during school holidays.
