Hockey

HockeyGirls’ hockey at St John’s continues to go from strength to strength, with a fixture list developing to compete against many strong schools.

It is the main sport in the Autumn Term and the School boasts 14 teams to accommodate players at all levels. The recent crop of girls has shown that they will regularly challenge in county tournaments and several players have been awarded representative honours. The hockey club is proud of their achievements but gives equal time and support to all girls so that they can improve and enjoy the game at their own level.

The School employs a professional hockey coach and a strength-and-conditioning trainer to support a well-qualified and enthusiastic staff. With a brand new second astroturf pitch and excellent facilities, the girls’ hockey club is looking to a bright and exciting future.

While football remains the main sport for boys in the Spring Term, we also have four boys' hockey teams. The 1st XI and the elite Junior team are keen, high-quality players who train hard to compete well on a strong circuit. At a lower standard, the second sides play a major role in maintaining the ethos of ‘sport for all’ at St John’s. Many boys are novices to the game but develop into competent players who enjoy competitive fixtures every Saturday.
