The School Chapel is a beautiful and spacious building, popular for concerts with local schools, charities and choral societies. The venue can seat a maximum of 70 people in the choir stalls and the nave can comfortably accommodate up to 500 people on cushioned wooden pews.
The Chapel hosts two beautifully designed stained glass windows, which create a unique and tranquil atmosphere. The stunning west window was a new addition in 2014. Designed by Jude Tarrant, it focuses on themes of war and its futility. It features the symbolic poppy that came to represent the sacrifice of those who fought in the First World War and subsequent conflicts. The west window now complements the east window, also designed by Tarrant.
St John’s is in the process of fundraising for a new Kenneth Tickell organ, to be installed in the summer of 2015. Upon completion, the School will be in receipt of one of the finest new organs in the country.
