A very mixed day from the U16 7’s team. Some superb rugby played but we were desperately unlucky with injuries and in the group stages.
Vs Dulwich: Win 17-0
A great performance first up against Dulwich. Iain Sexton showed great pace and was supported well by solid defence from Joe Moriarty. George Parry also found some great lines and carved their back line wide open.
Vs Freemans: Loss 15-21
A very closely contested match but we were very unlucky with 50:50 decisions and missed tackles costing us the game. St John’s scored following a great interception from KO by Iain again and Harrison kept the scrum solid.
Vs Howard of Effingham: Win 34-0
A much easier game here but we still had to create a lot of play to exploit a quick Howard Back line. Dan Johnson controlled this game well and ensured we did not panic so keeping possession.
Vs Greenshaw: Win 32-0
Again another easy game and they just could not cope with Harrison Bricker’s and Oliver Metcalf’s strength. We crashed through their defence and supported each other well.
Vs Heathside: Draw 7-7
Winning until the last play, we were unlucky to lose against a good side who came second in the group overall. Up front Dan Pope played well and George Parry scored a great try hitting his usual acute angle. Though missed tackles cost us and they bounded through in the last play and converted.
Result in Group Stage: 3rd in group, through to the Plate final.
Plate 1st round Vs St George’s Weybridge: Loss 7-19
A tough game as the opposition unleashed their England fullback and we could not live with their pace. Though Josh Howe carrying a pulled Quad stepped up and played well creating chances. A great charge down the wing from him being backed up by Harrison created our try here. Also Jonathan Dudeney played some good percentage rugby making sure St John’s kept the ball.
There were a few lessons learned today but some great play from St John’s so hopefully the belief will be there to cause some upsets at the Rosslyn Park competition.
