FEES 2008- 09
Boarding Per Term
£7,960
Day Per Term
£5,790
Additional
Expenses
Items such as examination fees, stationery, books, magazine
subscriptions and photographs are invoiced termly, in arrears. Termly
fees and charges for optional expenses are reviewed annually. Fees
cover normal curriculum tuition, lunches for pupils and all tuition
and meals for boarders.
Voluntary
Activities
These are organised by various members of staff and charges
are made appropriate to the activity. Examples include trips to
concerts to the theatre and outdoor expeditions.
Fees for Children of Anglican Clergy
(Foundationers)
Fee remissions for Foundationers are based on total family
income. If academic, all-rounder, art or music awards are made,
this will
reduce the fees further. Likewise, grants obtained from any other
source will reduce the overall outlay on fees.
Fees for the Children of Old Johnians
There is a 10% discount of the school fees for the children
of Old Johnians joining the School from September 2007.
Save Fees by Paying in Advance
The School operates a scheme which gives a tax-free saving
to those who pay a capital sum in advance towards their child's
fees. Estimates can be provided of either the capital required to
cover a known amount of fees each term, or how much the termly fees'
bill would be reduced by depositing a given sum. The rate of yield
of deposit is guaranteed for the full period of time up to and during
the child's education. Should the child for some reason not come
to St John's, either the agreed amount of secured termly fees can
be paid to another school or the deposit can be returned. For further
details of this scheme and for information about any other aspect
of fees or expenses, please contact the Bursar.
Bursarial Assistance
Financial Assistance may be
available to families who experience financial difficulties having already accepted
an offer to join St John's or where a pupil is already at the School. Eligibility
for
assistance is considered upon receipt of a bursary application form and supporting
documentation must be provided. Each application is considered on a case-by-case
basis.
Bursarial awards
are reviewed annually and may be withdrawn if parents' financial
circumstances improve during a pupil's time at the School. Application
forms may be obtained from the Bursar's
Secretary.
Grants
Where further
Financial assistance is needed in excess of bursarial assistance,
the School will support applications to other grant-making bodies.
Further information is available from the Bursar's
Secretary
Payment
School fees are payable in advance, on or
before, the first day of term. A surcharge of 1% will
be imposed on
the balance of
fees remaining unpaid one week after the start of term,
and each week thereafter. Alternatively, payment by
monthly direct
debit
from a UK bank account can be arranged. Details of this
arrangement may be obtained from the Finance
Bursar.
A full term's notice in writing is required before the
removal of a pupil or the change of status from boarding
to day, otherwise
a full term's fees will be payable. If a pupil is withdrawn
from the School without such notice, or if for any reason
a pupil leaves
the School or is required by the School to leave during
the course of the term, no fees are returnable.
A term's fees will be required from the parents of a pupil
who, having been entered for admission to the School for
a particular
term, is subsequently withdrawn before or at the commencement
of that term - thereby making it impracticable for the
Headmaster to
fill the vacancy. A term's fees (less deposit held) will
be payable by parents if, for any reason, they cancel the
acceptance of a place
or a pupil does not join the School after the place has
been accepted save where the pupil has not achieved the
required entry standard.
Cases of serious illness or genuine hardship may receive
special consideration on written request.
School Fees Refund Scheme
This scheme provides insurance cover
for a remission of fees for pupils' absence through
illness or injury. Fees will be
refunded for each period of absence from the School of
more than eight days for a boarder and five days
for a day pupil. Details
of this arrangement may be obtained from the Domestic
Bursar.
Medical & Insurance
Cover
Normal medical attention (including
admission to the School Medical Centre) is covered
by the fees, and specialist/hospital
treatment
under the National Health Service will be arranged where
necessary. Private medical treatment under such
schemes as BUPA is the
responsibility
of parents. All pupils are included in a Personal Accident
Insurance Scheme.
The insurance policies of the School do not cover losses
of pupils' effects. Parents' Householders Comprehensive
or All Risks policies
should be suitably extended to give adequate cover. Alternatively,
the School has arranged a Pupils' Personal Effects Insurance
Scheme,
details of which may be obtained from the Domestic
Bursar.
