Albany Awards

Widening Access to St John's

The first priority of the St John’s Foundation will be to fund two free place per year-group for families who would not otherwise be able to consider sending their children to St John’s.  These places will be known as Albany Awards.  Our School was founded to give opportunities to young people who would not normally be able to consider a School like St John’s and we want to ensure these opportunities remain open.

It is intended that the new Albany Award places will be awarded to children from disadvantaged backgrounds who would particularly benefit from the education and pastoral care that St John’s provides.  We are therefore forming partnerships with other educational charities and maintained Schools in Surrey and the South East to help us recruit pupils to encourage admissions from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Widening access has always been a priority for St John’s and it is extremely important to the School that our pupils are representative of a broad spectrum of upbringing and personal circumstances.  We have seen numerous examples of children, who have only been able to attend St John’s because of financial assistance, inspiring and motivating their peers and making significant contributions to School life.

In turn, we believe that the education and pastoral care for which St John’s is renowned is capable of providing life-changing opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
