Pupils are assigned to one of nine houses when they join the School. The houses essentially have a pastoral function. The house system also, however, provides a variety of sporting and cultural activities in which pupils can get involved. The aim of house competitions is to involve a wide range of pupils in activities, even in ones where they might not otherwise take part. This provides all pupils with the chance to compete as part of a team in numerous activities, without adding to the pressures of being part of a school team. Pupils have the opportunity to participate in various different house competitions including rugby, football, hockey, cricket, athletics, cross country, badminton, music, poetry, drama, debating, general knowledge quiz, netball, rounders and fives.
